Arthur  Boyd  Houghton    (1836 —  1875)

Houghton was perhaps the greatest of mid 19th century British book illustrators, brought to his powerful imagination, skilful artistic merit which meaningfully engaged the reader's emotions.

His work for the Arabian Nights was amongst his greatest. Between 1869 and 1875, the year of his death, he worked for The Graphic and was sent as a Special Artist to the United States recording in a remarkable body of work the nation and its peoples.
