Sir John  Tenniel    (1820 —  1914)

Tenniel was a cartoonist and illustrator, who trained at the Royal Academy and joined the magazine Punch in 1851, for which he drew more than 2000 cartoons over more than 50 years. He was a great and often serious draughtsman, though probably best remembered today for the comic genius of his drawings for Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol.
