An artist, illustrator
and author of children's books, he was apprenticed to a
firm of designers but left to become a "professional
conjuror" according to Houfe and eventually joined the
Daily Mail as a staff artist. His work in the Arabian
Nights is rather dark but with much lively detail. His
Sinbad and the Old Man of the Sea is managed well with a
malign Old Man riding a terrified Sinbad.
